by its peel
I learned long ago not to judge a fruit by the peel. These bananas may not have even been considered worthy of banana bread to some. Perhaps they would have gone straight to the compost pile. However, inside they were perfectly ripe and not at all bruised or squishy. The dry weather here sucked all of the moisture from the peel. I even had to use scissors to cut the bananas from the stems because the stems were so dry that they became hard.
Another reason not to judge a fruit by its peel, as my kids will tell you: Lemons are green, limes are yellow, and oranges are green or yellow.
